Tri-City Voice Sports has named Arica Jones of California School for the Deaf's girls basketball team as the Female Athlete of the Month for March. When she wasn't leading CSD all the way into the NCS Division VI Finals, netting nearly 75 percent of her team's points, she was able to take a few minutes to sit with us and answer a few questions. Here's what she had to say.
TCV: Who is your favorite athlete?
AJ: Candice Parker, Because she is just like me- she is a versatile player. She can play a variety of positions. Her leadership amazes me. She has a sweet personality both on and off the court.
TCV: Who is your hero?
AJ: Micheal Jordan-he is overrated. He is the best of all-time, he 's always going to be my hero. What person can go up for a lay-up on the right side switch while in air. He is always going to be my hero.
TCV: What's on your Ipod?
AJ: Jay Z, "Drift off my shoulder" to pump me up before games.
TCV: Where are you going to go to college?
AJ: I'm going to go to Gallaudet University in the fall. I am going to play basketball in college because it has been my dream since I was a kid. I would like to play in the WNBA with people with more skills and ability. Also, with bigger and stronger women.
TCV: What your favorite color?
TCV: How many points per game did you average last year?
TCV: Future Aspirations?
AJ: I am going to major in Business and Law. I want to be an International Finance Business Administrator and a Lawyer.
TCV: Favorite Movie?
AJ: My favorite movie is Medea's Family Reunion. It talks about family and I can relate to it. It's really touching.
TCV: What hand do you prefer to dribble with?
AJ: I'm ambidextrous: I am able to use both my hands.
TCV: What is you favorite subject in school?
AJ: I gotta pick English. It's soo much fun to learn English write papers, reading response logs, criticizing modern and past English, using MLA format and updating my writing.
