The following are highlights from the Fremont Unified School District Board meeting held on February 13, 2013.
Great Activities...Great Fun
Community Leadership/Superintendent’s Report: A charming and festively attired group of young students from the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade Mandarin Immersion classes at Azevada Elementary School, performed the song “Gong Xi, Gong Xi,” in celebration of Chinese New Year. Azevada Principal, Carole Diamond as well as the students’ teachers and parents were on hand to show their support of their school’s popular Mandarin Immersion program. ... Full story
Over the past months, FUSS (Fremont United Student Store) has been extremely busy creating events and projects, to benefit the school district. FUSS is a nonprofit organization established for the sole purpose of raising money for Fremont Unified School District (FUSD).
Newark Unified receives grant from Fremont Bank
Several months back the organization presented a talent show showcasing local students and sold DVD copies of the performance as well as a musical CD and greeting cards created by other talented Fremont students. During this current time of budgetary uncertainty for schools, FUSS is trying to fill in the gaps with needed funds. ... Full story

At its February 5 School Board meeting, Newark Unified School District was on the receiving end of a generous check donation in the amount of $17,700 from Fremont Bank. Newark Unified will use the funds to purchase the Naviance system. Students at Newark Junior High, Newark Memorial High and MacGregor Alternative Learning Campus, as well as school counselors, staff and parents, will utilize this state of the art software platform to assist with college and career planning.

Community Leadership/Superintendent’s Report: In honor of African American History Month (February), Sr. Pastor Horacio Jones of Newark’s Family Bible Fellowship invited the Board, staff and the tri-cities community to attend the church’s interactive program on “A History of the African American People- A Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” The event will be held on Sunday, February 24, 1:30 p.m., at the Family Bible Fellowship, 37620 Filbert Street in Newark. The following are highlights from the Fremont Unified School District Board meeting held on January 9, 2013.
Community Leadership/Superintendent’s Report: Superintendent James Morris stated how proud he was of the district’s staff and employees in light of the tragic school incident at Sandy Hook, across the country. Fremont schools are in communication with the Police Department and work with other schools on how to keep our schools safe. Assistant Superintendent of Business, Raul Parungao addressed the Board regarding the Governor’s preliminary budget projection, for 2013-2014.
