Soulciety pays youth to work for your organization

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Hayward-based, non-profit Soulciety seeks organizations and companies in Hayward and the surrounding communities that are in need of workers. You provide the jobs and supervision; Soulciety will provide the youth workers and pay them.

To take advantage of this opportunity, the organization must 1) Email Gina at gina@soulciety.org as soon as possible and provide job title, description, ideal weekly schedule and the number of positions available; 2) Provide youth with work between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., Monday through Friday and/or weekends from now until June 30, 2013; 3) Provide on-site orientation for youth workers; 4) Provide jobs that are meaningful and productive. ...

Shrouded Tales at McConaghy House
Tours on October 18, 19 and 20, 2012

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Follow the “Undertaker” through McConaghy House, built in 1886, and witness stories of the McConaghy family. Learn of the family’s history, Victorian death traditions and superstitions and what paranormal activity has been recorded.

Tours begin at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at McConaghy House, 18701 Hesperian Boulevard, Hayward, on October 18, October 19 and October 20, 2012.

I-680 Express Lane celebrates second successful year
I-680 Express Lane use grows

ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. -- An ever increasing number of drivers choose to travel in the southbound I-680 Sunol Express Lane, as the second anniversary of the Express Lane’s opening approaches. The Express Lane admits toll-paying solo drivers in addition to carpoolers (who use the lane at no cost), which optimizes capacity and increases travel time reliability. Since the southbound I-680 Sunol Express Lane opened on September 20, 2010, nearly 800,000 solo drivers have reached their destinations by traveling at speeds that are typically 10-15 miles per hour faster than motorists experience in the general purpose lanes during peak commute hours, without impacting carpooler drive times. ...

Castro Valley Veterans’ Memorial dinner and dedication

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. -- Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) District 14 Castro Valley Post 9601 will host a Dedication Dinner on November 10, 2012 before dedicating the long-awaited Castro Valley Veterans’ Memorial, the next day.

The project, which will have taken just over two years to fund and build following the Hayward Area Recreation and Parks District’s September 2010 approval of the Memorial’s location, honors the memory and service of Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force and Merchant Marine veterans on Service Stones along with the names of civilians, companies, groups and organizations on 1,000 commemorative bricks which will be installed on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 between 10 a.m. ...

Alecto to acquire St. Rose Hospital

HAYWARD, Calif. -- The St. Rose Hospital Board of Trustees decided, on September 17, 2012, to execute a letter of intent for the acquisition of St. Rose Hospital by Alecto Healthcare Services LLC.

HAYWARD, Calif. -- Hayward Police Department unveiled its new crime mapping program on September 12, 2012. This initiative will help reduce crime and enhance community policing. CrimeMapping.com enables residents and business owners to analyze interactive maps and reports of recent criminal activity. The website allows users to search specified areas within the City by date, location and type of crime. They can also generate, print and electronically share the maps and reports. The program raises the community’s awareness of criminal activity in their neighborhoods and in the vicinity of businesses where they work or shop. ...
