Social Shopping Can Yield Travel Deals
By Denny Stein
Popping up all over the web, and becoming very popular, are social group shopping websites. The most well known seems to be www.Groupon.com, but there are lots of others such as Trubates.com and Livingsocial.com. These sites and services can be fun and introduce you, through discounts, to new restaurants, spas, eyewear, garden supplies, almost anything, targeted to your hometown area.
But there's another use for them and that is finding deals in places you will be visiting on vacation. For example, last week-end I was in Las Vegas. Before I went, I registered with Groupon and entered Las Vegas as my location. I began getting discounts for Vegas shopping and events, such as a $22 coupon for the interactive show "Stripper 101," usually a $45 ticket. Hardly one to pass up a new experience (a pole dancing and stripper class?!), I bought it and went to the "show." For more about the outcome of this Vegas deal, watch for the Travel article, in a Friday paper, Boredom and Gomorrah? How to enjoy Vegas if you don't smoke, drink, or gamble.
