Logan to present ÔThe ProducersÕ
Submitted By Larry Wenner
The Performing Arts Department at James Logan High presents its spring musical, ÒThe Producers,Ó opening Thursday, March 6 at the schoolÕs Center for the Performing Arts.
Max Bialystock, a run down Broadway producer, tries to convince Leo Bloom, a mousy accountant, to live out his dream of becoming a Broadway producer by putting on a complete flop of a musical. After Leo agrees, the two go on a crazy journey to find the worst play ever written, the worst director in town, and the worst actors in New York.
They find "Springtime for Hitler" and convince Nazi-crazed Franz Liebkind to allow them to produce his play, which he allows them to do, but only after taking the sacred Siegfried Oath. They then bring on Roger De Bris, who although not keen on the idea of directing the dark and depressing piece of war and despair, is inspired by the idea of a Tony Award. Back at Max's apartment, a stunning Swedish bombshell named Ulla walks in and asks Max and Leo about auditions. After giving the boys a show that leaves them hot and bothered, Ulla is hired on as secretary slash receptionist. With money financed from Max's investors Ð who happen to be little old women who are anything but innocent, ÒSpringtime for Hitler" is in motion as a sure-fire flop! Or is it?
The production stars Bryant Daly as Max Bialystock, Carl Bello as Leo Bloom, Isabella Montufar as Ulla, Ricky Guzman as Franz Liebkind, James Reynolds as Roger De Bris, and Justin Blanco as Carmen Ghia.
The community is invited to join Max and Leo as they sing and dance their way through this irreverent musical comedy.
ÒThe ProducersÓ will run March 6 through 8 and 13 through 15 at 7 p.m. each evening. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call (510) 471-2520 ext. 60206.
