Submitted By Bob Miller
The Douglas Morrisson Theatre (DMT) is excited to announce the fourth production in the 2013-2014 "Bare Bones" staged reading series: ÒBOB: A Life in Five ActsÓ by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, a quirky comic chronicle of the highly unusual life of Bob and his lifelong quest to become a "Great Man."
Bob is born and abandoned in the bathroom of a White Castle fast food restaurant. From a tender age, heÕs sure that he is supposed to be a ÒGreat ManÓ Ð if he could just figure how. Thus begins BobÕs extraordinary trek across America, where he encounters a myriad of weird and wonderful characters, experiences love and loss, hardship and fortune, the whole gamut of life. Wide-eyed Bob soaks Òeverything up like a roll of Bounty.Ó NachtriebÕs ÒBOBÓ is a hilarious and poignant exploration of American Mythology, and the pursuit of happiness.
ÒBOB: A Life in Five ActsÓ was originally commissioned by South Coast Repertory, and developed with the support of the Playwrights Foundation in San Francisco. The play won the 2010 Barrie and Bernice Stavis Award from the National Theatre Conference, and received its world premiere in March 2011 at the Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, directed by Sean Daniels.
Peter Sinn Nachtrieb is a San Francisco-based playwright whose works include ÒBoom,Ó ÒT.I.C. (Trenchcoat In Common),Ó ÒHunter GatherersÓ (2007 ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award, 2007 Will Glickman Prize), ÒColorado,Ó and ÒLitter: The True Story of the Framingham Dodecutuplets.Ó His work has been seen off-Broadway and across the country including locally at A.C.T., Encore Theatre, Killing My Lobster, Marin Theatre Company, Impact Theatre, and The Bay Area Playwrights Festival.
Director Jeffrey Hoffman has been directing and acting in the Bay Area for the past 11 years. He is thrilled to return to the Douglas Morrisson Theatre, having played Chris Keller in last yearÕs production of ÒAll My Sons.Ó Other recent directing credits include ÒCat on a Hot Tin RoofÓ at Boxcar Theatre and ÒCatÕs-PawÓ at Dragon Theatre, and he was seen on stage in the Bay Area premiere of Jon MaransÕ ÒThe TemperamentalsÓ and the world premiere of Brad EricksonÕs ÒAmerican Dream,Ó both at the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco.
ÒBOBÓ will have one performance, Tuesday, October 8 at 8 p.m. at the Douglas Morrisson Theatre in Hayward and is appropriate for ages 15 and up. Tickets are $10 (open seating), and are available through the Box Office at (510) 881-6777 or online at www.dmtonline.org.
