Attempted homicide in San Leandro

On Saturday, August 24 at approximately 1:21 p.m. the San Leandro Police Department investigated a shooting in the 2700 block of San Leandro Boulevard.

Our investigators developed information about the suspects.

The Crime Suppression Unit located a vehicle associated to the shooting in the area of St. Elmo Drive and Stoneford Avenue in Oakland. During an enforcement stop, Officers attempted to contact the suspect and the suspect displayed a firearm. An SLPD officer discharged his weapon at least one time at the suspect, fearing for his safety. The suspect was not struck by gunfire. The Suspect dropped the gun and attempted to run away. He was immediately taken into custody with the assistance of a police canine.

Lt. Randall Brandt stated, ÒThis is reminder that keeping the community safe is not an easy task. Protecting the community from violence is a priority and Officers continue to rise up to the policing challenges.Ó
