Senate approves Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Bill
Submitted By Sergio Reyes
On September 10, 2013, the California State Senate approved a bill by Senate Majority Leader Ellen M. Corbett (D-East Bay) that supports the state's goal of 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) on California roads and convenient access to ZEV infrastructure by 2025.
Sponsored by Plug In America, SB 454 allows public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to operate similar to gas stations by allowing drivers to use multiple payment methods to charge their car battery. Under this legislation, EV drivers will be able to use a credit card or mobile technology, instead of having to pay a subscription fee or join a club, association or organization to pay for battery charging service.
