Dempsey fire

On April 23 at 11:03 a.m. reports of fire at 428 Dempsey Rd. Apt. #228 were called into the Milpitas 911 Dispatch. Milpitas Fire Department immediately dispatched all Fire Apparatus - Engine 201, Engine 101, Engine 3, Truck 4, Truck 1, USAR 1 and Milpitas Battalion Chief 19 - to the scene. Additional on scene fire attack assistance was provided by Fremont Fire Department's Battalion Chief 5, Engine 55, Truck 57.

First arriving apparatus reported that smoke and flames were visible on the balcony at Apartment #228. The initial attack of the fire was performed in an offense mode as rescuers were searching for potential victims. After a successful search of the structure it was confirmed that there were no injuries to residents or emergency response personnel.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze at 11:45 a.m. and began salvage and overhaul operations. Additional units were provided by the San Jose Fire Department to assist in responding to other calls for emergency service in Milpitas. The San Jose crews that responded were Engine 23 and Engine 25.

Cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Milpitas Fire Marshal's Office.
