Beacon Award Recognition
Submitted By City of Union City
The City is being recognized by the Institute for Local Government (ILC) and the Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative (SEEC) through the Beacon Award Program for our sustainability efforts. This statewide program recognizes California cities and counties that are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy and adopt policies and programs that promote sustainability.
ILG is the research and education affiliate of the California State Association of Counties and the League of California Cities. SEEC is a new collaboration between three statewide non-profit organizations and California's four investor-owned utilities, including Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), whose mission is to assist cities and counties to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy.
The City has received interim recognition at a "Gold" level for its efforts to reduce municipal energy use by eleven (11) percent between the years of 2005 to 2011 and implementation of three (3) best practices within each of the ten (10) best practice areas. The best practices areas encompass a variety of sustainability-related topics including green building, waste reduction, and climate-friendly purchasing. |
