On Sunday, November 4 at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a domestic violence call on the 4500 block of Central Avenue in Fremont. The reporting party stated that her roommate was being attacked by her (the roommate's) husband. As officers arrived, they witnessed a female (later identified as the victim) fleeing the apartment and a naked man holding a knife pursuing her.
Officers demanded that the suspect stop and drop the knife, and when he refused, officers fired their weapons hitting the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local trauma center where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured during the incident. The suspect is a 37 year old San Jose resident.
Two officers, with 3 and 20 plus years of service were involved in the incident. The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave per department policy. The incident is being investigated jointly by the Fremont Police Department's Investigative Unit and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. |
