Sikh sports association honored
Submitted By Andrew LaMar
Senate Majority Leader Ellen M. Corbett (D-San Leandro) honored the Sikh Sports Association of the USA and student participants from her East Bay district and throughout the state in a special ceremony on the Senate Floor on May 25, 2012.
Established in 2006, the Sikh Sports Association of USA is a non-profit organization created to promote a healthy lifestyle for Sikhs and others in the communities they live in. The association builds strong relationships by engaging participants in a common goal of living active lifestyles.
The association does this by organizing activities, sports and games that are open to all communities and their residents, without any discrimination of religion, community, country of origin, ethnicity, age or gender. This year marks the sixth anniversary of the annual Sikh Sports Games that are scheduled to be held in July 2012 in Union City.
"I thank the Sikh Sports Association of the USA and the Sikh community for their dedication and commitment to core values of healthy living, community service, scholarship, tolerance and peace," Corbett said. "I am glad to honor the Sikh Sports Association because it is a positive influence throughout my East Bay district and a model organization that inspires all with whom they come into contact."
Senator Corbett presented the association with a State Senate Resolution. She also recognized several Sikh Sports board members and students who joined in the recognition from the Senate Gallery.
