Checkpoint to target drunk drivers and educate public
Submitted By Sgt. Dean Sato, Union City PD
The Union City Police Department plans to conduct a sobriety and drivers license checkpoint on Friday, December 23rd from approximately 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The checkpoint will be clearly marked and placed on a Union City roadway with a high rate of DUI arrests. The checkpoint will be staffed by Union City officers in full uniform.
The checkpoint provides an opportunity to locate drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and remove them from your roadways. Each year, drivers under the influence cause a disproportionately high number of collisions, many of which result in injury or death. The checkpoint will help educate the public by distributing an informational pamphlet and by letting people know that the Union City Police Department is committed to deterring people from driving while under the influence and arresting those who do. A conviction for driving while under the influence could result in suspension of driving privileges, fines and jail time.
The Union City Police Department reminds everyone to have a designated driver or take a cab if you have been drinking and to always wear your seatbelts. The checkpoint was funded through a grant from the Avoid the 21 Campaign. |
