Bluefins take third at championships

On the campus of Chabot College in Hayward, the East Bay Swim League held its EBSL Championships meet with all 12 clubs vying for a title this past Saturday, July 30. There were approximately 1,100 swimmers total splashing their way to victory. Newark Bluefins had tremendous effort and finished third overall.

Bluefin swimmer Jonathan Mui set a league record in the butterfly. All of the Newark Bluefins had strong swims and gave it their all. Thanks to coaches for a tremendous season and to all the Bluefin families that supported their swimmers day after day.

In the girls 9-10 age group 25 fly, the Bluefins Emily Loaisiga had a tremendous heat, and finished with a time of 15.76; Victoria Gerome had herself a great run in the girls 15-18 age group 50 fly, finishing with a time of 28 second flat; and in the boys 11 and 12 age group 50 fly, Mui's EBSL record was 28.36 seconds.

In the girls 9-10 age group 100 medley relay, Bluefins J. Tsai, R. McKinley, Loaisiga and N. Ho finished with a record 1:08.71. In the 100 free relay for the boys 9-10 age group, Joshua Tsai, J. Duenas, J. Reyes and Emmanuel Ngbemeneh finished with a record time of 58.06; and in the boys 11-12 age 200 medley relay, the team of G. Lu, K. Alcosiba, Mui and J. Crosby finished in 2:10.16.

As for the Bluefins swimmers finishing in the 100-point club at the EBSL Championships, Mui topped the charts with 134.25 points; Loaisiga finished with 127.50; Isabelle Loaisiga tallied 127; Joshua Tsai ended with 122; Ngbemeneh topped out with 111; and Gerome finished with 110.
