Homicide suspects named

On February 29, 2008 at 6:11 p.m., Union City Police responded to the area of Kennedy Park in Union City to investigate the report of several gunshots heard in the area. When patrol officers arrived they located a vehicle on 12th street near Decoto Road that contained two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, identified as 28 year old Juan Carlos Gomez, a Hispanic male, died of his injuries at the scene. Gomez was a resident of Hayward. The second victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local trauma center.
Initial investigators determined that the shooting took place during a robbery and gang-related slogans were overheard during the incident.
On Friday, July 1, 2011, Union City Police with assistance from Fremont PD and the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force, served a series of arrest and search warrants at several residences located within Union City. During the course of this on-going investigation, several Union City residents have been identified as being present and participating in the shooting death of Juan Carlos Gomez.
Currently in custody, charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and participation in a criminal street gang are Union City residents, Noel Cruz, Joel Perry Jr. and Damian Alaniz.
