Summer writing contest for students

Submitted By Art Carey

What's so good (or not so good) about living in Fremont, Newark or Union City?

Students in elementary, middle and high schools will get a chance to express their views about Tri-City area life in a writing contest sponsored by Fremont Area Writers.

Prizes will be awarded in all three grade levels, and a lucky (and talented) young writer will receive a grand prize of $50. Entries can be fiction or nonfiction and are limited to 500 words. There is no entry fee.

Mail entries by July 14 to: Myrla Raymundo, 3107 San Ramon Ct., Union City, CA 94587. For questions, contact her at (510) 378-6376.

Prizes will be awarded from 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, at Paddy's Coffee Shop, 3900 Smith St., Union City. Finalists will have the opportunity to read their entries in public, if they choose.

Fremont Area Writers is the centennial branch of the California Writers Club.
