Giants fall in quest for a repeat

In the District 14 Senior League baseball Tournament of Champions final, the Mission San Jose Little League Giants weren't able to repeat as champions, falling one game short of the feat, losing to the Niles-Centerville Little League Nationals, 11-6 on Tuesday, June 21.
MSJ reached the final game by earlier downing their archrival, MSJLL A's, 9-3, in the opening round of the four-team, single-elimination bracket.
In victory over the A's, Mark Cho, Kevin Finch and Ryan Mark combined on the hill to scatter seven A's hits while striking out seven and walking only two batters. The trio was supported by a nine-hit attack that featured two hits from Cho and Cole Lewis, and a run-scoring double by Nikhil Menon.
Defensively, the Giants were sterling as they committed only two errors with Finch making a terrific diving catch in short left field from his shortstop position to thwart an early A's rally. The A's offense was sparked by James Gaffey who rapped out three hits.
In the championship game, the Giants' defense faltered as they committed six errors that contributed to five of NCLL's 11 runs. Finch took the mound for the Giants and pitched well for five innings before leaving the mound. Things looked good early on for the Giants as they built up a 5-2 lead after two innings with Finch delivering a two-run opposite field double. Other key hits came from the bats of Michael Lin and Tyler Johnson. But NCLL would not be denied as they scored nine unanswered runs while the Giants' bats fell silent to allow NCLL to take home the TOC crown.
