June 13:
The Alameda County Fire Department (ALCO) requested assistance from the Union City Police Department for a suspicious injury call. ALCO initially responded to a routine medical call involving an injured child with a head wound at a residence on the 32000 block of Monterey Drive. They located a five-year-old child inside the residence suffering from a traumatic head injury who was unresponsive and later transported to a local hospital for treatment. During a subsequent interview with the child's parents, it was learned that the injury had occurred during a family dispute in which the father, Prashant Malik, threw a metal object that unintentionally struck the child. As of June 15, the child is listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The child's father was evaluated, arrested for Child Endangerment, a felony, and transported to Santa Rita County Jail.
