Warwick teachers and staff get the royal treatment

Thanks to the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) of Warwick Elementary School, teachers and staff at the school enjoyed massages as part of their Staff Appreciation Week. The Teacher's Lounge and PTA room were transformed into soothing havens of relaxation while the four member team from the California Skin Care & Day Spa in Newark, volunteered their services to knead the daily stresses and tensions away. Soft music and scented candles added to the ambiance.

Yvonne Srem, a parent volunteer and Parliamentarian of the school's PTA, had previously been to the spa and thought it would be a great idea to contact them to provide this wonderful treat for the school's personnel.

The day spa's owner, Elena Aleteanu was more than pleased to donate their services. "It was a really nice idea, because teachers need it and as parents, we really appreciate them teaching our children," said Aleteanu.

After his massage, fifth grade teacher, Steve Spencer was enjoying a tasty snack, supplied by the PTA. "It's the best 10 minute massage I've ever had and very relaxing. I didn't expect the whole atmosphere that they set up in the room," he said.

Another teacher, Mike Murphy explained that he had back problems and recent shoulder surgery. "The massage took all the stress out, especially now with all the extra work we do. We really appreciate it and it was so surprising and unexpected."

Srem, who recently returned from the PTA's State Convention, felt inspired and expressed her hope that her school's PTA would move away from the business as usual model to a more involving and proactive mode. She explained that teachers are really working longer hours and have to handle more students in the classroom. "This is a morale booster. We should all work together and be supportive."

School librarian, Donna MacRae commented, "It was the most incredibly relaxing massage - wonderful, unexpected and more than I thought it would be. We have amazing parents here."
