On Monday (4/25), officers responded to an in- progress residential burglary located on Del Monte Court. A witness reported that a juvenile suspect was attempting to break into the residence via the rear sliding door. The witness took a photograph of the suspect as he was breaking into the residence. The flash from the camera alerted the suspect, causing him to flee. Police arrived just in time to catch him less than a block from the victim's home.

Tuesday evening (4/26), an officer was dispatched to investigate an in-progress vandalism. A witness reported that three suspects were spray-painting graffiti on the sound wall on Whipple Road near Dyer Street. The first officer on scene caught all three suspects in the act and arrested them for graffiti.

On Wednesday (4/27), Newark Police requested assistance covering calls for service while they investigated a homicide. Union City Police sent two officers to Newark while they stabilized the scene and called in additional resources.

Also, on Wednesday (4/27), members of the Community Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) unit were conducting special enforcement in the area of the Tropics Mobile Home Park when a vehicle committed a traffic violation. The officer attempted to make a traffic enforcement stop, but the driver fled and attempted to evade the officer. The driver eventually pulled over in the area of Medallion Drive and Noah Drive, jumped out of the vehicle and began to make threatening statements to the officer. Officers physically restrained the driver and found he was on parole. He had discarded a loaded firearm nearby which was recovered. The driver was ultimately arrested for possession of a loaded firearm and a violation of parole.
