The week of Monday, March 21, to Sunday, March 27, was an unusually quiet one for baseball squads of the Mission Valley Athletic League. Three of the league's schools, John F. Kennedy, Mission San Jose and Washington high schools, had no scheduled games this week; James Logan and Irvington high schools each had games rained out; however, Newark Memorial and American high schools each managed to complete contests.
Newark trumped De La Salle, 3-1, on March 22. Christopher Flexen picked up the win for Newark, pitching a complete game while giving up only two hits and throwing six strikeouts. With the win, the Cougars improve to 5-1 on the season.
Also on March 22, American edged Valley Christian, 2-1, despite being out hit six to four. Joey Hockett got the win for the Eagles, going for six innings before handing it off to Maurice Miranda. American now stands at 2-4 on the season.
