Santa Cruz Harbor open to boat traffic again

Submitted By AP Wire Service

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) - Santa Cruz Harbor is open again to boat traffic.

U.S. Coast Guard officials say they lifted travel restrictions in the harbor at 5 p.m. Tuesday after determining that there was no longer any sunken debris or boats at the bottom that could be a hazard to vessels in the harbor.

Surging waters caused by Japan's massive earthquake nearly two weeks ago hit the harbor, sinking or damaging about 100 boats.

Even though the harbor is open to boat traffic again, harbor officials warn that there is no power or water service on some of the dock areas that were damaged by the tsunami.
