Fremont Family Resource Center receives grant
Submitted By Christine LaBadie
Citi presented the Fremont Family Resource Center (FRC) with a $15,000 check on Monday, March 7 to support its free volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) program helping low-to-moderate income individuals and families.
Mona Masri, Statewide Initiatives Director for Citi's Community Development presented the check to Judy Schwartz, FRC Administrator, Carolyn Robertson, FRC VITA Coordinator, and Suzanne Shenfil, Fremont's Human Services Director, in the FRC's VITA Tax Preparation Room with many of the FRC's 140 VITA volunteers in attendance.
"Citi strongly supports the Fremont Family Resource Center and its efforts to bring the unbanked and underbanked into the financial mainstream," said Masri. "Free Tax Preparation and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) provide low-income individuals and families with an incredible opportunity to start saving money and building wealth. We are proud to help enhance awareness of the EITC and to help Bay Area residents claim the credit on their taxes."
Households that earned less than $49,000 in 2010 are eligible for free tax preparation at VITA sites. The FRC's tax service will be available through April 18. For more information about tax site locations, eligibility, and what documents to bring, taxpayers can call 2-1-1 or 1-800-358-8832, or visit www.earnitkeepitsaveit.org.
