Tidewater Boating Center Opens
Submitted By Mona Koh
East Bay Regional Park District will officially open the Tidewater Boating Center March 5th in a public dedication ceremony. The Boating Center sits on the shore of the Oakland Estuary at Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline Park. This unique shoreline complex has an ADA accessible dock for boat launching. The dock, opened in January, has already become a popular launch area for kayakers. Designed by Siegel & Strain Architects of Emeryville, California, the 12,000+ square foot complex consists of a boathouse, storage facility and accessory administrative building, home to the Park District's Recreation Department. Roof forms were inspired by the shape of an oar blade. Recreation programs will be both water- and land-based taking advantage of the estuary access and Bay Trail connection at the park including biking, nature study, kayaking and canoeing programs particularly aimed at area youth. The dedication begins at 1 p.m. Following the ceremony, an open house and several interpretive programs until continue until 2:30 pm.
