Children's Book Illustrators Exhibit
By Mona Shah
Every picture tells a story. Sun Art Gallery will host nine professional illustrators at its annual Children's Book Illustrators Exhibit celebrating the nature of art in literature. In its 22nd year, the exhibit describes and demonstrates how art and language work together. The exhibit opens on February 9 with a reception for the featured illustrators.
This year, nine selected professional illustrators will showcase their work including traditional watercolor illustration, playful cut paper collage and computer generated artwork. Featured artists include: Gabriele Bungardt (Mup the Pup), Joe Cepeda (From North to South), Felisha Hoshino (My Dog Teny), Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher (For the Love of Music), Elisa Kleven (Welcome Home, Mouse), Lea Lyon (Keep Your Ear on the Ball), Yuyi Morales (Floating on Mama's Song), and Kathryn Otoshi (Maneki Neko: The Tale of the Beckoning Cat).
Colorful and lively works on display are sure to enchant both children and adults. Alongside these artists, students in Janice Golojuch's Children's Book Illustrator Class at Chabot College will be showing their work.
Please join Sun Art Gallery and the illustrators to celebrate the exhibition and take part in an opportunity for book signings on Saturday, March 19th. Books illustrated by the artists will be available for purchase throughout the course of the exhibition which will close April 16. School tours are offered for this event.
