Fremont homicide victim identified
Submitted By Detective Bill Veteran, Fremont PD
Authorities have identified a homicide victim as 58-year-old Michael Roberts. Roberts was found dead on Tuesday, January 25 at about 10:45 a.m. in his home on the 4700 block of Central Avenue in Fremont. An acquaintance contacted the police. The body was taken into custody by the Alameda County Coroner's Office who advised Fremont Police Detectives the next day that the death was most likely a homicide.
Investigators were unable to locate the victim's vehicle at the residence. The vehicle was entered into the California SVS system as a "missing vehicle from a homicide." Forty-five-year-old Bryan Le of San Jose was spotted driving southbound on Highway 101 in a 1993 Buick Regal, a car that had been reported as being involved in a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday, January 26. The car and license plate matched that of a vehicle owned by Roberts.
Police chased Le down Highway 101 until he finally pulled over south of the Main Street exit in Salinas. He initially refused to exit the vehicle and fired a handgun through the roof of the car. He later fired the gun into his own chest. Le was flown to a Bay Area hospital for emergency treatment of his shooting wound and is expected to survive, police said. Police consider Le a "person of interest" in the case. This incident is still under investigation. |
