Eden Youth and Family Center fundraiser
By Julie Grabowski
In celebration of over 30 years of service, the Eden Youth and Family Center is holding a fundraiser on Saturday, February 5. Under the banner "You Gotta Have Heart," the event aims to raise funds for the center's Day Care Center, providing care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers; Computer Clubhouse, a year-round after school option for ages 8-17 to foster more confident learning as well as exploration of personal interests through technology; and the New Start Tattoo Removal Program, assisting those aged 13-25 in the removal of gang and/or drug related tattoos.
In addition to information on available services, attendees will enjoy an evening of music, wine and hors d'oeuvres, highlighted by a silent and live auction. Prizes include themed gift baskets, such as Giants and A's, and Chabot Space and Science Center, while the live auction will offer a wine train trip and a cabin stay in Oregon among other tantalizing treats.
Created in 1977, the Eden Youth and Family Center unites valuable community resources to assist the youths and families in South Hayward and the Eden area, as well as those throughout Alameda County. In addition to the three programs of their own, the center partners with several other agencies to provide a full spectrum of care. Families in need can obtain emergency clothes, food, and counseling through Family Resource Center; Silva Pediatric Clinic offers full service dental and pediatric care for kids through age 21; job training and placement services and literacy and language education can be obtained at the Day Labor Center; and Hayward Community School provides programs for junior and senior high students restricted from regular campus attendance.
"The event supports one of the few multi-purpose sites in Alameda County that serves low income families and children," says Executive Director Dave McKeown.
The fundraiser resumes what used to be an annual event, last held in 2006. It is an opportunity to gather the community together and celebrate the work that has been done through the center, promoting services and getting people more involved in an effort to make a better community.
Tickets are $25 and may be purchased in advance or at the door. Contributions are tax deductable. For more information or to make reservations call (510) 887-1146.
