One Book, One Community Reading
The book selected for 2010-2011 is "Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution - And How it Can Renew America." The "hot" is global warming; the "flat" is the rise of the middle class; and "crowded" refers to the growing population around the globe. These three mega concerns are explored in this extraordinary best seller by its Pulitzer Prize winning journalist/author Thomas L. Friedman. Read it, think about it, and talk about it with fellow citizens in a discussion session.
Book discussions were held in November and December of 2010; two more are scheduled for the upcoming months. On Thursday, January 27, Leta Stagnaro, Associate Vice President, Newark Center for Health Sciences and Technology will lead a discussion at Ohlone College, Newark campus from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Florence Silver, AAUW member and Evening Literature Chair, will conduct the last meeting on Tuesday, February 22, from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Temple Beth Torah in Fremont. All discussions are free and open to the public; you do not have to read the book to attend.
