Michigan man's defensive weapon for the birds
Submitted By AP Wire Service
MENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP), Jan 08 - A southwestern Michigan man says a birdhouse on a pole became his weapon of choice - or at least necessity - to ward off an attacker.
WWMT-TV reports Friday that Travis Lux from St. Joseph County's Mendon Township agreed to help a man who came to his door claiming to have car trouble. But as the two walked outside on Thursday night, Lux says he was struck in the back of the head with what felt like a rock.
Lux says he saw his nearby birdhouse and pushed its pole as hard as he could into the attacker, and then hit him in the face with it.
The man ran to a waiting, working vehicle. Lux described him as about 5-feet-10-inches tall, in his mid-40s with a gray goatee.
