Improv Comedy Theatre opens in Fremont
Improvisational Theatre, also known as "improve," allows actors to perform spontaneously, typically using audience suggestions to guide the performance. Actors create dialogue, setting, and plot extemporaneously, often comedic. Each show is unique.
On Friday, January 21, Made Up Theatre will officially open in Fremont with two shows. "This is a dream come true for us," said Bobby August, a co-founder of Made Up Theatre. "We've been working toward having our own theatre for years now and are so excited to have this opportunity." The theatre name tells the story... "We called it "Made Up Theatre" because everything is made up on the spot," said August.
August has performed improv shows for many years with fellow co-founders Dustin Seidler, Sean Taylor, Ben Stephens, and Steve Seidler. They formed Five Play Improv which has performed in numerous venues throughout northern California including a sold out performance at the San Francisco Improv Festival. August reflected on their success saying, "We're so lucky to have great fans that always come out and support us."
In addition to improv and comedy shows, Made Up Theatre will also be a place to learn and practice the art of improvisation. "One of our primary goals is to provide the opportunity for anyone to come down and learn how to improvise," explained August. The cast has years of teaching experience and a part of their training was at the world-famous Second City Theatre in Chicago.
Grand Opening shows will take place on Friday, January 21. The recommended age range for these shows is 16 and up as the performances may contain adult language and situations. Both shows will feature Five Play Improv sketches and completely improvised scenes and stories. "Our shows are designed for the audience to simply laugh and have a great time with us" said Dustin Seidler. "We hope to be able to perform in Fremont for years to come!"
