Submitted By Steven Blomquist

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to appoint Supervisor Dave Cortese as President of the Board of Supervisors on January 11, 2011. As part of the duties of the President, Cortese will set the new directions the County will take in 2011 to improve the quality of life for residents. Santa Clara County is home to almost 2 million residents, spread across 15 cities, with an annual budget of more than $4 billion.

"I'm honored to be chosen to serve as the President of the Board," said Supervisor Cortese. "Despite the difficulties of the economy and the state budget, I think there are opportunities for the County to make a great impact in our local economy and for children and families and I look forward to working with everyone to make it happen."

As President of the Board, Supervisor Cortese will present the Annual State of the County Address on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 11.30 a.m. at the County Government Center, 70 W. Hedding St., San Jose.
