On Saturday, December 18 at 12:50 p.m., an alert citizen noticed a suspicious person lurking in the parking lot near Neiman Marcus at the Great Mall of the Bay Area, looking into vehicles. Security personnel were notified who then reported the incident to the Milpitas Police Department. The security staff began monitoring a male suspect via a security camera and observed him breaking into a vehicle and stealing a stereo. The male suspect then walked over to an associated truck and handed the stereo to a female passenger inside that vehicle. The suspect vehicle is described as 1995 Red Chevy Silverado Truck.
Milpitas Police Officers responded quickly and located the female in the truck with the stereo and arrested her. The male suspect was located in the parking lot walking away from the scene and was arrested as well. A computer check revealed the truck had been reported stolen from the City of San Jose.
The male suspect was identified as Daniel Ortiz, a 31 year-old resident of San Jose. The female was identified as Eileen Garcia, a 36 year-old resident also from San Jose. Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for burglary, conspiracy, auto-theft and possession of burglary tools.
