Letter to the editor: Collaborate for our students' sake
I am honored to serve, and take seriously my election, as a Trustee of the Hayward School Board. As a product of public schools, I have seen first-hand that they are the cornerstone of our society. We need good schools to help mold our students into productive members of society. Education provides opportunities. For plentiful opportunities, Hayward School District must provide our students with a great and broad education. We need to prepare them for college or a career, whichever path they choose.
The state-wide fiscal crisis creates huge challenges for our District. Hayward's citizenry and agencies must collaborate and work as a community: Board of Education, City of Hayward, County of Alameda, unions, teachers, students, parents, administrators and District personnel. We do not want the State to take over our District. Working together, we can solve our problems and restore community pride.
Now is the time to be proactive, not reactive. Let us be progressive in our thinking and strategies so that we promote the most success for our students.
Please feel free to contact me directly at william@williammcgee.com. I look forward to hearing from you and working in partnership for a better Hayward Unified School District for our students and a better community in which to live.
