Chabot sends five wrestlers to state championship

Chabot College men's wrestling team traveled to Modesto Junior College this past weekend, Saturday, Dec. 4, to wrestle in the Northern California Regional Wrestling Championships. The top six placers in each weight class advanced to the California Community College State Wrestling Championships (Thursday, Dec. 9 through Saturday, Dec. 11) at Victor Valley College in Victorville.
As a team, the Chabot Gladiators finished sixth and had six wrestlers who placed. Five of the six will advance to the State Wrestling Championships. Wrestlers who advanced for Chabot College are:
Janik Santana (125 lbs.) placed third, defeating Ruben Gonzales from Shasta College, 12-9, in the consolation finals match; Alex Williams (133) also placed third, defeating William Sepulveda from Lassen College by a score of 10-3; Craig Sherman (157) placed fourth and lost by injury default to Craig Simon of Shasta College; Ira Goosby (174) also placed fourth, losing to Nick Gill from Sierra College by a fall 2:14; and Milo Anderson (184) placed third defeating Adam Charles in overtime, 3-1.
Sam Gomez (285) will attend the State Championships as an alternate after he placed eighth, losing to Rafael Iriarte from Sierra College, 3-1. |
