Scully named TCV Female Athlete of the Month
By Nick Zambrano
In Moreau Catholic's strong run into the North Coast Section Division III volleyball tournament, senior Megan Scully was without a doubt, the team's guiding light.
In the Lady Mariners' first round match with Hercules High, Scully made the match out of reach with her 16 kills, eight digs and three aces. She outdid herself in the quarterfinal thriller against Miramonte High, this time going for 20 kills and an amazing 27 digs.
The Lady Mariners would go on to win the match in five sets, due in part to Scully's major contribution. And despite her team getting ousted in the semifinals by Sir Francis Drake High, the outside hitter racked up nine digs to go along with 13 kills. Throughout the course of the 2010 season, Scully has been a constant force on the offensive end with her team-leading 596 kills.
Now with volleyball season in the books, the 5'10" Scully will take a very short break and then focus her attention to the basketball court where she will help lead a young, tough varsity squad. Last season, Scully anchored a Moreau team that did not have a single senior and guided them to a 17-10 overall record.
And despite her busy schedule, Scully still found time to answer a few questions as the Tri-City Voice honored her as this month's female Athlete of the Month.
Tri-City Voice: How many years have you played the game of volleyball?
Megan Scully: Eight years.
TCV: How long have you been on Moreau's varsity team?
MS: Four years.
TCV: What can you about the run the team made into the NCS?
MS: We worked really hard from the beginning of the season to get past the second round of NCS because for a few years we haven't been able to go further than the year before. I thought we played our best game of the season against Miramonte and we played together.
