November 5, 2010 > Future Fremont
The result of a lengthy process to create a new General Plan for the City of Fremont is taking shape and for those who are reticent to read through hundreds of pages of text, the spirit and elements of the document are captured in a "Vision Book" released to City Council on November 2, 2010 and now available on the City website at: http://www.fremont.gov/DocumentView.aspx?DID=3212
The new General Plan will give broad direction to city staff and officials for the next 20 years, capturing the intent based on projections and a vision for future growth and conditions. Elements explored within the document range from transportation issues to lifestyle and present a broad spectrum of ideas based on input from as many sources as possible including residents attending public forums. A series of meetings have been held to include as many perspectives as possible and given the importance of this document, it is imperative that the snapshot used has a wide angle lens. Some of the basic elements explored in the General Plan include: urbanization, mobility, economics, education, art, demographics, community character, parks and open space, retail centers, quality of life, climate, environmental and health issues.
Another opportunity for public input is available this weekend, on Saturday, November 6, in City Council Chambers at 9 a.m. As the process nears completion, more information and conclusions are revealed, giving concrete examples of which ideas will take precedence in Fremont's future. After registration, attendees will choose two sessions from a variety of group discussions of the different General Plan elements. The schedule for this workshop is available online at: http://www.fremont.gov/DocumentView.aspx?DID=4591.
A draft document of the new General Plan is available at: www.fremont.gov/GeneralPlanDraft. Copies of the Vision Book are available for purchase. If interested, contact Dan Schoenholz at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
