Washington Huskies Dig Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness
Submitted By Janet Herrington
On Oct. 7, the Washington High School girls varsity and JV volleyball teams participated in the national Side-Out Foundation's Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness initiative, collecting over $500 through donations and sales of baked goods and Dig Pink merchandise.
Every October, thousands of college, high school and middle school volleyball teams across the country hold Dig Pink rallies and tournaments, and dedicate matches to raising awareness and funds to go towards research and living with breast cancer organizations.
Side-Out Foundation's name underscores the purpose of the organization - "Side-Out" in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against breast cancer, the Side-Out Foundation supports health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with breast cancer, thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives. |
