The Milpitas Police Department has recognized Officer David Morris and Officer John Muok for their life saving efforts to help a community member.
On June 18, 2010, Milpitas Police Dispatch received an emergency medical call about a woman at a residence who was not breathing. Officer Morris diverted from an unrelated call and immediately responded to the scene. He arrived within 2 minutes and 45 seconds of the call, located the woman and realized she was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Officer Morris immediately began Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Officer Muok arrived on scene shortly thereafter and assisted Officer Morris with the CPR by performing chest compressions. Milpitas Fire Department (MFD) personnel then arrived and also assisted with the resuscitation efforts. The officers and MFD personnel were able to establish a faint pulse during the CPR. American Medical Response (AMR) paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital where she was provided further medical treatment.
The quick response by Officer Morris and Officer Muok, along with the assistance of other medically trained personnel, saved the woman's life. She has since recovered and is alive today. Because of their actions, Officer Morris and Officer Muok were each awarded the Milpitas Police Department Life Saving Award. Vice-Mayor Pete McHugh, on behalf of Mayor Bob Livengood, presented each officer with a City Commendation as well.
