Prep tennis and volleyball recap

San Leandro High School lost to Moreau Catholic High School, 5-2, in girls tennis action last week. San Leandro's Helen Deng and Seanna Vien put the Pirates on the board with wins against Lisa Wilson and Lei Ahn Drake (6-1, 6-2; 6-3, 7-6).
Moreau Catholic shuffled its top singles players and scheduled junior Jana Lee to play San Leandro's Miranda Wan. Lee beat Wan 6-3, 6-4. Mariner Nicole Dawang defeated Han Chen 6-4, 6-1.
The Mainers doubles teams didn't lose a set. Delani Dumpit and Gabby Blanco beat Angelica Guiao Nicole Pabilona 6-3, 7-5. Victoria Vergara and Tricia Dones defeated Soro Morey and Crystal Nguyen 6-4, 6-3. Lizel Mendoza and Francesca Rebosura won 6-2, 6-0 against Gabby Ghassemi and Caroline Holanda 6-2, 6-0.
Moreau Catholic is 7-1 in Hayward Area Athletic League.
Irvington High School's double team had another stellar week in Mission Valley Athletic League play with three straight-set wins against John F. Kennedy High School. Vida Bao and Sarina Utamsing defeated Myra Espinosa and Lily Myo 6-1, 6-0. Mane Ohanyan and Shilpa Sharma won 6-0, 6-0 against Helen Kao and Valentina Do. Heta Patel and Karina Uchiumi trumped Kristin Vu and An Nguyen 6-2, 6-0.
After last season's poor doubles display, coach Dan Leon made doubles play a priority. Leon ensured that the best combinations of Vikings players were paired together, and after many family drills, everything came together. "Our doubles teams are the back bone and strength of our team this season," Leon said.
Irvington's singles also had a good week: Aparna Dhinakaran beat Brenda Vilavong 6-3, 6-2. Abigail Gracia defeated Yee Hoang 6-1, 6-0. Jamie Lagman beat Manpreet Kaur 6-2, 6-1.
Milpitas improved its league record to 4-4 with victories against beating Fremont (7-0) and Los Gatos (4-3). The wins propelled Milpitas to 9-5 overall.
California School of the Deaf defeated Oakland Military Institute 25-16, 25-14, 25-14. Freshman Darriyan Thomas seven kills, five aces and three digs for CSD. Alexandrina Brinkley-Green (CSD) recorded 14 digs and five kills.
James Logan High School's Tuesday win against Mission San Jose High School was its second consecutive win in the week. The Colts are 3-2 in the MVAL.
Mission San Jose prevented a three-game losing streak by beating Washington High School 25-23, 25-23, .26-24. Washington was riding a streak of its own with three straight victories. The Huskies are 10-5 overall and 3-2 in MVAL play.
Kennedy went 0-2 in the week, losing its ninth mach in a row in shut out fashion again Irvington. This win was Irvington's 13th overall victory and its fourth win against MVAL match ups.
