Plein Air Paint Out
En Plein air is a French expression which means "in the open air," and is used to describe paintings that have been created chiefly outdoors, rather than in the studio. Find inspiration in the many natural settings throughout Garin Regional Park during the Plein Air Paint Out on October 9. Capture the light, shadow, and colors of rolling hills, creek habitats, wildlife, various native floras, and farming equipment from the 1800s. All two-dimensional mediums like oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels and mixed media will be accepted.
Artists will paint anywhere at an outdoor location within the park and not from a reference photograph or digital image. Plan on bringing your painting supplies, an easel, chair (if needed) and additional drinking water. Hats or caps are recommended. Dress in layers for the weather.
Artist Pre-registration is required before October 7. Please call 1-888-327-2757, option 2 or 3, or visit www.ebparksonline.org and click on "Programs & Activities" and type in course number "25051" in the search box (then click on "Next").
Entry fee: $15 ($17 for non-residents of Alameda and Contra Costa counties); sign in begins at 8 a.m. For more information, please call naturalist Dino Labiste at (510) 544-3215.
