October 5, 2010 > An Evening with Mary An Evening with Mary By Meenu Gupta Community will gather in a celebration to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary under her different titles and roles. Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the Blessed Virgin or the Virgin Mary, is a traditional title used by most Christians to describe Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. "Our theme this year is "Mary our Mother teaches us to Love. We are inviting everyone to come and join us for a wonderful experience," said Event Coordinator, Cory Mollat. Different statues, pictures of Mary, fully decorated in their carozzas (hand help carriers) will join the candle light procession, followed by a contemplative rosary praying the Luminuos mysteries, with Scriptures, Song and Icons all in honor of the Blessed Mother. "This event started four years ago here at St. Elizabeth Parish," said Mollat. Santa Marian Kamalen Ministry group wanted to honor the Blessed Mother Santa Marian Kamalen every year on October 7, for the feast of the Holy Rosary. Julie Garrido, the chairperson for the group came up with the idea of inviting the different ethnic community that comprises the parish of St. Elizabeth. Everyone got together to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. "The first year we had eight different statue/picture of Mary, fully decorated in their carozzas joined the procession with each of the ethnic community following the virgin," said Mollat. "The candle light procession was led by Our Lady of Fatima, followed by the Virgin of Antipolo from the Filipino community. Next is Our Lady of La Vang from the Vietnamese community. Our Lady of China, dressed in her satin blue from the small Chinese community. Our Lady of Sorrow in her black veil and a heart pierced with seven swords followed by Our Lady of Grace carried by the members of the Legion of Mary." Mollat explained that the chamorro community brought Our Lady of Kamalen, The Immaculate Conception, "and lastly Our Lady of Guadalupe, Virgin of the Americas, from our Hispanic community," she said. Two more statues of Mary, Our Lady of Velankanni (Lady of Good Health) from the Indian community, and Our Mother of Perpetual Help, from the Hispanic Legion of Mary also joined two years ago.
