Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight

This week the player spotlight shines on the talents of Lauren Clark.

Playing for multiple basketball leagues, often at the same time, Lauren really loves the sport. She's been a basketball competitor for six years now but Clark also looks forward to a little soccer play too.

Now 13 and shooting hoops for the Amateur Athletic Union Tri-Valley Elite, Lauren has also played for both Christian Youth Organization and MJB leagues. She'll soon be playing simultaneously for the Elite and at Thornton Jr. High covering her spot on the floor as a shooting and point guard.

Outside of basketball, soccer would be her next passion. Playing soccer since age 8, she's currently a forward and defense mechanism for the Newark Thunderstorms.

With all of this ongoing sport activity in her life Clark doesn't have to do much to stay in peak condition. She does look forward to running with her mom, but she says that's mostly for fun.

At Thornton Jr. High she pays a lot of attention to her studies. History is a favorite subject with Spanish lessons right behind. Clark says learning to speak Spanish is what she really looks forward to and that's because Ms. Imhoff's lessons are so much fun.

Lauren is absorbing as much as she can at school because she knows it will help her achieve her ideal career as an actor. That goal may change and if it does she will probably go into the medical field as an anesthesiologist or pharmacist with hopes to help others.

For fun Lauren likes to hang out with friends or spend time with her family, especially her sister. A family trip to the beach is an outing that she also favors and when she travels it's off to Maine for reunion parties or up to Spokane, Wash., to see her cousins.

There's never a hesitation on what to order for dinner because her favorite pepperoni pizza and brownies for dessert are usually easy to find.
