The Newark Fire, an U-10 girls Division 1 silver team, won their first two league games last weekend by defeating Union City 5-0 on Saturday, Sept. 11, and San Ramon Azuri by the same score on Sunday, Sept. 12.
Against Union City, Hannah Gamez and Angelique Valenzuela each collected two goals in the win, while Aracelli Hinojosa scored the other goal. Rachel Bruckner and Lissette Mason each collected two assists during the win, while Sara Jones and Gamez collected one a piece. It was a great team effort for the fire. Sam Oceguerda was solid in defense in helping to deny the shutout. Goalkeepers Mason and Bri Motta were outstanding in both games, in preserving the shutout.
Against San Ramon, Gamez collected another three goals, with Hinojosa and Valenzuela collecting the other two to complete the score. Natalia Sanchez, Sara Jones and Gamez contributed assists during this game. Additionally, Isabella Garcia, Sara Buffey, Trinity Castillo and Kailey Alcosiba all played solid defense and midfield to preserve the shutout. Newark returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 19, against the Dublin Strikers.
