Chabot wrestling starts strong

Submitted By Steve Siroy, Chabot College wrestling coach

Chabot College wrestling team started the year off with a double dual meet match. Chabot traveled up to Shasta College on Saturday, Sept. 11, to wrestle against Shasta College and San Joaquin Delta College.

In the first match against Shasta, Chabot won matches at the 133 (Cuong Do), 165 (Craig Sherman), 184 (Ira Goosby), 197 (Milo Anderson) and 285 (Sam Gomez) weight classes. It was a close match.

Going into the heavyweight match, Chabot was losing 22-24. Gomez needed to win his match for Chabot to win. After the first two rounds the score was still tied at 0-0. With about 15 seconds left in the third round, Gomez scored a two-point takedown to give the Gladiators a 25 - 24 win. It was a great effort and job by Sam.

In the next match, Chabot wrestled against San Joaquin Delta. Chabot had wins from Janik Santana (125 lbs.), Alex Williams (141), Sherman (165), Alex Zonio (175) and Gerald Lee (197). Chabot beat San Joaquin Delta by a score of 28-21.

Chabot now holds an overall record of 2-0. Chabot will travel to Sacramento on Saturday, Sept. 18, to compete in the Sacramento City College wrestling tournament -- a 10-team tourney that gets underway at 10 a.m.
