Home composting demonstrations and workshops
Submitted By Cheryl Golden
The Fremont Main Library is continuing free home compost demonstrations for the entire family. The second of six monthly workshops will be held on Friday, September 17 in the Fukaya Room at the Fremont Main Library, 2400 Stevenson Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Have fun while learning to compost!
Fremont resident and Master Composter Sarika Rathi will demonstrate how residents can compost food scraps and organic material at home, as well as discuss composting practices with and without worms. Workshop attendees will learn how to use compost to improve their soil/health of their plants and how to reduce waste. City staff from the Environmental Services Division will be on hand to answer composting questions and distribute educational materials about Fremont's programs.
Enter one of two raffles for gardening items and a chance to win free garbage service. The workshop will also feature hands-on activities for children, including looking at worms through a magnifying glass and receiving stickers and coloring books.
Volunteers are needed to assist with the kids' activities, the raffle, and taking photographs or video.
