September 10, 2010 > Hayward-La Honda music camp fundraiser Hayward-La Honda music camp fundraiser Submitted By Marvin Bowerman Bring your family, friends and picnic dinner to the Hayward-La Honda Music Camp's Fourth Annual Fall Fundraiser and enjoy a wonderful evening listening to jazz and classical music. This event supports the Hayward-La Honda Memorial Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to music students with financial hardship and whom music teachers have recommended. "We had a successful camp this year with more than 270 middle school and high school students in attendance," said Marvin Bowerman, Camp Administrative Director. "This fundraiser will help others to attend in 2011." The Fall Fundraiser will feature the faculty staff jazz band with Andy Martin on trombone, currently with the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band and Dancing with the Stars. There will also be star performances by Stan Martin on trumpet (performed with Poncho Sanchez, Lou Rawls, Paul Anka), by Scott Martin on saxophone (leads the Scott Martin Latin Soul Band, worked with Tito Puente, Ray Charles), by Greg Sudmeier on drums (performed with B.B. King, Joe Williams, Aaron Neville, Linda Ronstadt), by Dave Eshelman on trombone (Jazz Garden Big Band, performed with Joe Henderson, Ray Brown) and by Faculty Strings led by violinist Joe Gold and Debbie Dare on viola. Supporters and guests will also enjoy the Student Jazz 1 Band, silent/live auctions, finger foods, fine wines and camp slide show. Chouinard wines will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle. The camp will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2011 and the organizers plan something special. Next year's camp is from July 23 to July 30, 2011. Students wishing to apply for financial assistance to attend camp, should visit www.LaHondaMusicCamp.org.
