The Elizabethan era comes to life in Fremont with the 2nd Annual Ardenwood Shakespeare Festival and Renaissance Faire September 11 and 12. Experience the romance and thrill of England's Golden Age with over 800 entertainers in historical garb and fanciful speech bringing to life a late 1500s country fair in England, where rising playwright Will Shakespeare faces the most terrifying of opponents: writer's block.

Three stages offer continuous entertainment with singers, dancers, story telling, magic, and acrobatics, while the Knights of Mayhem battle in an exciting full contact joust. Witness archery tournaments, hand to hand combat with period weapons, military demonstrations, theatrical performances, and visit the royal court of Queen Elizabeth.

Patrons will find themselves woven into Shakespearian storylines at every turn, perhaps mingling with soldiers and royalty, villagers, mercenaries, maids or courtesans.

"If you love Shakespeare and Ren Faire, you will love this show," said Marti Miernik, Producer of the Ardenwood Shakespeare Festival and Renaissance Faire. "Parents wishing to introduce their children and teens to both history and to Shakespeare can't go wrong by bringing them to this very special event. We are known for making the Bard's works accessible and understandable to modern-day audiences, whether they are Shakespeare aficionados or experiencing his works and influence for the first time."

In addition to the entertainment, over 100 merchants will be offering a diverse selection of arts and crafts including jewelry, ceramics, armor, juggling sticks, clothing, woodcrafts, tapestries, historical hand-forged weapons, and various other period style items.

Ardenwood, a Fremont landmark park is a fitting spot to host the festival, as George Washington Patterson, the farm's original owner, named his estate Ardenwood in 1857 after the Forest of Arden mentioned in Shakespeare's comedy "As You Like It."

Be a part of Shakespeare's Muse and escape into a fanciful world of chivalry, poetry, royalty, and romance at the Ardenwood Shakespeare Festival and Renaissance Faire.
