Submitted By AP Wire Service

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP), Aug 31 - The suspect accused of shooting and critically wounding a San Francisco Bay area police officer who was serving a warrant has been charged with attempted murder.

Alameda County prosecutors on Tuesday say Andrew Barrientos shot Fremont officer Todd Young while Young and another officer tried serving an arrest warrant in Oakland.

The 20-year-old suspect is also facing other charges, including carjacking, shooting at an occupied vehicle and transporting marijuana.

Barrientos surrendered on Saturday just a few feet from the U.S.-Mexico border following an intense manhunt. The 39-year-old officer remains hospitalized in serious condition following the Friday shooting.

He is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 7.
