Participate in Newark Citizen's Police Academy
Submitted By Misa Leal
The Newark Police Department is seeking residents, as well as individuals who work within the city, to participate in their Citizen's Police Academy. The next seven-week Academy is scheduled to begin on September 15, and end with a graduation ceremony on October 27. Sessions will be held every Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The venue has been changed and participants will meet primarily at the Police department located at 37101 Newark Boulevard and not at the Silliman Activity Center.
Our goal is to provide the community with a "behind the scenes" look at our department through a series of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences. Applicants should have no prior felony or serious misdemeanor convictions, be willing to have a background check completed, have the ability to attend all scheduled sessions, be at least 21 years old, and live or work in the city of Newark.
Participation in the Academy will be a learning experience; the laws and policies that govern law enforcement will be discussed. Topics include forgery, fraud, identity theft, patrol and traffic procedures, firearms familiarization, gangs, narcotics, crime scene investigation, and Canine Program. For more information or to have an application mailed, please contact Terri Hernandez at (510) 578-4713 or visit www.newark.org.
