Kidnapping suspect arrested
On Friday, July 23, detectives served an arrest warrant at a residence on Nickel Street in regards to a kidnapping that occurred on Wednesday, July 21. While the officers were at the front door of the suspect's family's residence, he walked up to the residence. The suspect was arrested without incident.

Suspect arrested for possession of stolen property
On Friday night, July 23, an officer conducted a probation search during a vehicle stop in the area of Almaden Boulevard and Alvarado-Niles Road. During the search the officer located stolen property from a burglary that had occurred in San Jose. The driver was arrested for possession of stolen property.

Suspect arrested for possession of drugs
On Saturday night, July 24, an officer made a traffic stop in the area of Medallion Drive and Whipple Road. The driver was arrested for a misdemeanor arrest warrant and his vehicle searched as per the terms of his probation. Approximately 7.5 grams of methamphetamine packaged for sale, along with additional drugs and evidence were located. The driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for sale.

Fire at AT&T central office affects services
On Sunday night, July 25, the AT&T central office located in Union City had a fire that caused police radio and police emergency and non-emergency phone lines to fail. All 911 emergency calls were transferred to the Hayward Police Department and dispatched officers via a backup radio system. The cities of San Leandro and Sunnyvale were also affected by the fire.

Suspect arrested for auto-theft and burglary
On Monday, July 26, officers from the Community Policing Unit noticed a vehicle parked in an alley behind a business on Alvarado Boulevard. The occupants appeared suspicious and officers decided to investigate and found that the vehicle was stolen out of the city of Sunnyvale. Occupants of the vehicle were detained and the driver arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools and possession of drugs.

DUI arrest
On Monday night, an officer made a traffic stop in the area of 10th Street and H Street. The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested for Driving under the Influence. Child Endangerment charges were added as a juvenile was in her vehicle at the time.

Fight between two groups of juveniles at Union Square
On Tuesday, July 27, officers responded to a report of a fight between two groups of juveniles in the area of Union Square and Decoto Road. All subjects fled prior to police arrival. However, while officers were investigating the incident, B.A.R.T. Police called to advise they had two victims of the incident at the Union City B.A.R.T. Station. Officers responded and found several subjects who were involved in the fight. The subjects eventually dispersed without further incident.

Fire at Shell station
On Tuesday night, July 27, a witness called UCPD dispatch and reported a male suspect starting a fire at the closed Shell station located on Mission Blvd at Whipple Road. Arriving officers found one of the pumps on fire. A small fire was also located on the East side of the building. ALCO Fire arrived and extinguished the flames.
